Delilah

I painted this summer of either '07 or '08. Listening to
this song, I found the name for the painting (look closely at her hands for the clue). I was trying to color theme it (I usually tend toward lots of bright colors, perhaps, as my friend Paige suggested, a result of being slightly colorblind), and the background was meant to be a bit after Klimt. The picture I based her on is of my friend Charlotte.
I remember after truly listening to the song, that I went back and re-read the Samson story, to see if there were any room between the lines for Delilah to have been a misguided and foolish but otherwise sweet lover. There wasn't.

  1. I love this painting. I feel her eyes drilling a hole right through me. You've captured her hostile bitterness beautifully in her jaw, her mouth, and the coil of her body - like a snake that has lost its prey. Very nice.
